Republican primary voters chose incumbent Gov. Henry McMaster in the South Carolina GOP primary runoff, picking a career politician who is an ally of President Donald Trump over an outsider with a Trump-like background.
McMaster was declared the winner by the Associated Press over John Warren, a self-made multimillionaire. Trump played an outsize role in the race, tweeting his support for McMaster and flying to the state for a campaign rally on Monday.
South Carolina was one of seven states holding primary or runoff elections Tuesday, in races for governor and Congress.
